The MLUG has been streaming the audio for our meetings since late 1999. To that end we've been providing our members a way to listen to the meeting real time. We are using the Icecast2 streaming server and have moved off the mp3 encoding scheme to a 100% open and free OGG/Vorbis codec.
How do you tune in? . . . I'm glad you asked.
First you need a OGG/Vorbis compatible player. If your using Linux then you probably already have a compatible player installed. Here's a small list of Linux and Windows compatible players. This is not an exhaustive list. Just something to get you started. *GNOME and KDE desktops usually provide a builtin compatible player.
So Whats Next?
Try clicking on the speaker in the upper left corner of this box or just click here. Your browser will either launch a media player for you, or it will pop up a confirmation box. If the media player opens its should start playing the meeting audio (or some music), then your done. Otherwise keep reading.
If you get a dialog box. Select open with application. You then need to select the media player to open this file with. If you succeed you should hear audio or music from your speakers.
The manual way
Most media players allow you to open a URL or Location. Open your media/audio player and select open location/URL. For XMMS, press control-L with the XMMS window in focus. For the Beep media player, use Control-H. Once you have your application asking for a URL type this:
http://audio.mlusers.net:8000/meeting.ogg
You should now be hearing the audio like everyone else. If you're still having issues try the support forum. For testing purposes, we try to keep a stream available so its possible to verify your setup before the meeting starts. Feel free to get this all working before the meeting as if you ask for help in the Chat Channel, we probably will be too busy with other items to get you setup properly.
